Million node fracture: size matters?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abstract Transmissivity of self-affine fractures was computed numerically as a function the grid size. One-million-node (1024 × 1024 nodes) with fractal dimensions 2.2–2.6 were cut into successively smaller (“generations”), and transmissivities computed. The number in each generation increased by factor 4. Considerable scatter transmissivity observed for sizes. Average decreased size, without approaching any asymptotic value, which indicates no representative elementary volume (REV). This happened despite average mean aperture being same generation. results indicate that it is not possible to estimate large fracture cutting fractures, running flow simulations on those averaging results. decrease size found be due an increase tortuosity.

Size matters
Charles Darwin when developing his theory of evolution. And a new study of work on the islands' marine iguanas may help throw some more light on the evolution of body size within these populations. Body size is one of the most important traits of organisms and allows predictions of an individual's morphology, physiology, behaviour and life history. However, explaining the evolution of such comp...
متن کاملMatters of Size
Size does matter. At least that’s what the tagline of the movie Godzilla claims (one of the many renditions of the franchise). A quick glance at the great beasts of our past—dinosaurs, marine animals, snakes, why even disturbingly massive dragonflies, scorpions and camels—would make it appear as if increased body size conferred some sort of advantage then. Yet biologists concur that overall, th...
متن کاملTowards Realistic Million-Node Internet Simulations
This paper describes the Scalable Simulation Framework (SSF), a discrete event modeling API designed for the construction and simulation of very large networks. SSF can execute detailed simulations of complex topology networks with a million or more concurrent TCP/IP ows. We describe the overall architecture of SSF, the architecture of the network modeling layers above the basic API structure, ...

Compute federations represent a global pool of wellprovisioned sensors, continuously emitting system and application-specific data streams, that can be queried for distributed debugging, application control, anomaly detection, measurement and data sampling. Such queries may involve thousands of stream sources distributed across the wide area, implying that node and network failures will be comm...
متن کامل(Genome) size matters.
The quotation above has led to the commonly held view that all bacteria will eventually become resistant to any antibiotic given enough time and exposure. However not all bacteria develop resistance to antibiotics at the same rate (and perhaps some species of bacteria may never develop resistance to certain antibiotics). And some bacteria that have been labeled “resistant” are not, in any clini...
